Telecommunications and E-Commerce Committee

Objective

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Telecommunications & E-Commerce Committee develops policies that ensure the continued superiority of U.S. businesses in technology innovation and deployment.

Committee Overview

The Telecommunications & E-Commerce Committee develops U.S. Chamber policy relating to telecommunications, the Internet and e-commerce, broadcasting and mass media, data security and privacy, and e-waste. Participation on the committee allows U.S. Chamber members to develop and implement these policies and interact with other members of the regulated community. The committee hosts two formal, full membership meetings each year, in the spring and in the fall, as well as many smaller, issue-specific meetings.

Outdated laws and regulations impede U.S. technological innovation and deployment that are so vital to the U.S. economy. The U.S. Chamber promotes market-based solutions, policies that foster investment in technology research and deployment, and balanced regulatory treatment of technical platforms.

U.S. Chamber Board member Tom Tauke, Verizon, chairs the committee.

U.S. Chamber Strategy

  • Promote market-based and technological solutions to public policy issues by providing comments, testimony, and policy recommendations in legislative and regulatory forums.
  • Resist costly government-imposed regulations.
  • Host conferences, workshops, and seminars on current legislative and regulatory issues related to technology.
  • Meet semi-annually to discuss important technology issues and develop relevant U.S. Chamber policy.
