James W. Robinson is senior vice president and counselor to Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In this capacity, he advises Donohue and other officers on program, communications, international, and membership strategies.
Robinson is also a best-selling author whose nine books on business, politics, and public relations have been published in several languages. His most recent work is America and the Spirit of Enterprise, a volume chronicling the positive role of business in American society and the global economy.
Robinson began his career researching and drafting radio scripts and newspaper columns for Ronald Reagan. He also served former California Gov. George Deukmejian for eight years as speechwriter, communications director, and international trade advisor. Other positions include communications director for former California Attorney General Dan Lungren and press secretary to the late Congressman Jerry Solomon of New York.
A native of upstate New York and a graduate of Middlebury College (Vermont) and the University of Maryland, Robinson maintains residences in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
