Mr. President and Members of Congress: Don't Drive Us Off the Fiscal Cliff
Without action by December 31, 2012, we’ll see:
The largest tax increase in U.S. history—$4.5 trillion.
• Higher taxes on Americans at all levels.
• Higher taxes on job-creating small businesses.
• Higher taxes on investors and retirees.
• Higher taxes on estates and families with children.
Massive cuts to essential programs while wasteful spending continues.
• $1.2 trillion in indiscriminate cuts, including $500 billion in national defense.
• 1 million defense and manufacturing jobs wiped out in two years.
• Wasteful, runaway programs largely exempt.
What’s waiting for us at the bottom of the fiscal cliff?
More businesses closing their doors. More Americans losing their jobs. Maybe even another recession.
Congress and the president must act now!
• Immediately stop the historic tax hikes—for all Americans.
• Make smart and significant spending cuts—not meat-ax cuts that harm national security.
• Agree to a strict timetable for serious tax and entitlement reform.
