Support the Business Civic Leadership Center

BCLC's Stephen Jordan (center) leads a discussion about long-term disaster recovery with participants from the business, nonprofit, and government sectors.

The Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) works to advance the positive role of business in society.  Our program of work is created for business, by business.  In partnership with leading companies and organizations, BCLC focuses on current issues that have social and economic impact on businesses operating in the United States and overseas.

BCLC is funded through the sponsorships of companies such as yours.  There are several opportunities to support BCLC's program of work.  BCLC is a 501(c)(3) affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Opportunities to Sponsor BCLC

Program Sponsorship with recognition through our Events:

  • Business and Society Relations: Overall support of our program of work that focuses on improving business and society relations through promoting the story of business' positive role in their communities. We help businesses promote a culture of integrity and build trust with key audiences, while tackling issues including stakeholder trust, corporate governance and values, and business-nonprofit partnerships.

We have expanded our portfolio of issues to cover skill-based volunteerism, stakeholder relations, and sustainability.

Supporters will be recognized at the 2008 Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner taking place on November 18 in Washington, D.C. Nominations for the awards will be accepted from March 3 through
June 27.
  • Corporate Community Investment: BCLC raises awareness about community investment programs that work; help companies identify potential business, government, and nonprofit partners; address issues and obstacles affecting community investment; and provide other services to support business involvement in communities across America. BCLC documents profiles of corporate community investment through our annual Report and provides a variety of resources on our Web site and in our e-newsletter. Our Interactive web tools to assist local coalitions to identify common business and community interests and learn from other communities across the country will be available in February.

We received a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration to take the program national through community forums and a national corporate citizenship study in partnership with Indiana University to identify corporate best practices in community investment.

The 8 Regional Forums will include events in Houston, Newark, Saint Louis, and San Jose.  (Please contact BCLC if you are interested in hosting a forum in your community.)

A "help desk" is available to help companies identify additional resources to address local community development problems.

Supporters will be recognized at our National Conference on Corporate Community Investment taking place on April 27-29 at Disney's Grand California Hotel & Spa in Anaheim, CA that will bring together over 300 high-level business, government, and nonprofit leaders to advance and improve the effectiveness of public-private partnerships for community development.
  • Business Disaster Assistance and Recovery: BCLC helps businesses communicate and collaborate with each other and with the public and government sectors to make disaster relief, recovery, and reconstruction activities more effective and to encourage disaster preparedness with an emphasis on recovery. Our working group focuses on disaster response: business-to-business relations, business-to-nonprofit relations, business-to-government relations, long-term economic recovery, and preparedness and mitigation.

We have an agreement with U.S. Small Business Administration to support each others' missions and activities in times of national catastrophe.

For example, in response to the October wildfires in southern California we established a business help desk for donors and affected chambers and companies, which we are taking nationally, and we conducted an economic impact assessment of the wildfire impact region in partnership with the International Economic Development Council

Supporters will be recognized at our annual workshop will be on
June 4-5 with a focus on international disaster response.
  • Global Corporate Citizenship: BCLC convenes business donors, government agencies, and multilateral organizations to focus on enhancing the relationship between international aid and sustainable market development. We (1) promote the connection between "aid and trade,"  (2) create a "safe place" for dialogue between the business sector and civil society organizations about globalization and emerging market issues and (3) Solves problems affecting long-term social and economic development in specific contexts. We also continue to support the capacity of AmChams to create and advance CSR activities around the world.

Supporters will be recognized at our:
  • April event focusing on exchanging information about European and American approaches to corporate citizenship and CSR
  • 2008 Global Corporate Citizenship Conference taking place on September 25-26 in Washington, D.C.
