Chamber Members Meet President

Discuss Benefits of Stimulus Package

Chamber members Tom Sawner (far left) and Darlene Miller meet with President Bush to discuss the economy.
Across the nation, small and midsize businesses are taking advantage of more generous deduction and expensing allowances that are part of the U.S. Chamber-backed economic stimulus package signed by President Bush in February. On April 7, Chamber members were among a group of business owners who met with President Bush at the White House to discuss the impact of the stimulus package. Here is what they and other business owners are saying.

“We purchased two new servers and two new routers, and we plan to upgrade or replace 20 to 30 office computers. In addition, we made several major upgrades to our main server array. As Educational Options prepares to expand and move to new offices this quarter, this incentive is a big boost to our purchasing power for needed equipment.”
Tom Sawner
CEO, Educational Options, Inc.
Arlington, Virginia

“The MTSI Information Technology Department has been able to increase this year’s budget significantly, allowing for major equipment upgrades. In addition, we have been able to make major equipment upgrades at several of our branch office locations.”
Philip L. Soucy
Co-President and CEO
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc.
Alexandria, Virginia

“Because of the stimulus package, cell development and robotic technology that we only analyzed in the past due to initial startup equipment costs will now be ordered and added to our equipment lineup to optimize efficiency and productivity. We will also start negotiations for purchasing an additional mill…The additional capability will enable Permac Industries to expand its market base and help meet customer demand.”
Darlene Miller
President and CEO, Permac Industries
Burnsville, Minnesota

“Due to the cash flow benefits of the bonus depreciation, we will be replacing two 28-inch presses in Cleveland with a new Komori USA 40-inch press. This purchase will significantly improve productivity, efficiency, and capacity in our Cleveland printing plant, making us more responsive to our customers’ needs and allowing us to expand our business. Also, we will accelerate our plans to enter into variable data printing, a new service for our company.”
Raymond E. Pinard
President and CEO
48HourPrint.com
Boston, Massachusetts

“In early 2008, Wall-to-Wall faced a dilemma: renew our existing office lease or find a new location. The bonus depreciation provision of the stimulus act certainly helped both Wall-to-Wall Studios and our landlord, Northern Light Tower, overcome the economic side of the equation.”
James Nesbitt
President
Wall-to-Wall Studios, Inc.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“I’m most excited about the increase for Section 179 deductions for purchases up to $800,000, starting immediately. Not only do we get the tax savings, but just as importantly, we get the benefits of more production and more reliable equipment, which ABSOLUTELY help us compete with the likes of Mexico, China, and India.”
Ryan Robinson
CEO
Signal Metal Industries, Inc.
Irving, Texas
