Preparing for the Future: Personalized Medicine in the 21st Century, Featuring the 5th Annual Life Sciences Awards

“Preparing for the Future: Personalized Medicine in the 21st Century” featuring the 5th annual Life Sciences Educator Awards event will be hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 19th in Washington D.C. from 9:30 A.M.-11 A.M. 

During the event, Dr, Russel Kaufman, President & CEO, Wistar Institute will speak about the continued investment in providing an improved molecular understanding of human health and disease, and how converging technologies are positive forces in bringing new drugs to market. Darrell West, Founding Director, Center for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution will discuss findings from his white paper, “Enabling Personalized Medicine Through Health Information Technology Advancing the Integration of Information.”  In particular, Mr. West will discuss the challenges of enabling personalized medicine, as well as the policy and operational changes that would facilitate connectivity, integration, reimbursement reform, and analysis of information.

The program will reward those who are judged to exemplify excellence in life sciences:

  • A $10,000 award to a prominent American scientist
  • A $5,000 award to a high school educator
  • And two $1,000 awards to high school students
