Thank you for joining us January 24, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a job fair for veteran job seekers, active duty military members, guard and reserve members, and military spouses at the Grand Valley National Guard Armory, 1200 44th St., Southwest, in Wyoming, MI. This event was a one-of-a-kind FREE hiring fair for both employers and job seekers.
This hiring event was conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the Michigan Veterans’ Services Division, Pure Michigan Workforce Development Agency, the Michigan Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Army Reserve, Michigan Works!, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The American Legion, NBC News, and other local partners.

Grand Rapids GE Veterans Network Transition Assistance Program
The employment workshop consisted of GE's own veteran employees conducting one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered participants. Mentoring sessions focused on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veteran and service member participants. Mentoring sessions were held from 12 noon- 3 PM (during the run of the Fair).
Interested candidates were asked to please complete the FREE electronic pre-registration to participate. We were also take walk-ins if there is availability, but please sign up to secure a slot.
Online Tools for Veterans and Spouses
Hiring Our Heroes has launched an online partnership with Military.com to complement our face to face hiring fair efforts across the country. Veterans can get help writing resumes and interview tips; translating military skills, experience, and training into related civilian careers; and finding current lists of employment opportunities with military-friendly employers.
