Chamber–Job Corps Partnership
The National Job Corps program is one of the U.S. Department of Labor's most successful youth education and career training programs, with nearly 70,000 economically disadvantaged youth receiving education and career training annually.
CWP assisted chamber members in establishing and enhancing value-added relationships with local Job Corps centers that foster a "pipeline" for current and future employees. By working with state chambers, CWP creates statewide partnerships among chambers of commerce, One-Stop Centers, Job Corps, and education.
Goals/Objectives:
- Establish a model for systemic, statewide engagement with Job Corps via development of State Chamber–Job Corps Partnerships.
- Create linkages between statewide and/or local Internet-based career finder systems and Job Corps youth who are seeking employment
- Facilitate the demonstration of State Chamber–Job Corps Partnerships and the policy influence on statewide educational change as it relates to high school diploma programs for Job Corps youth
CWP has used what it has learned from its 4 years of work facilitating chamber–Job Corps partnerships in eight metro areas and 5 states to build more systemic partnerships.
A state-level approach is more consistent with the regional organization of Jobs Corps and is more likely to have an impact on broader policy issues across state-level agencies.
