Intel Invests $120 Million for Science Competitions, Youth Outreach, and Online Science Community

In October, the Intel Corporation announced that it was committing $120 million over the next 10 years to encourage and motivate young people's interest in math and science. Specifically, the Intel Foundation will contribute to the Intel Science Talent Search and Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Since the Talent Search began in 1942 (Intel has been the lead sponsor since 1998), six former finalists have won the Nobel Prize. Other finalists have been awarded the Fields Medal, the National Medal of Science, and MacArthur Foundation Fellowships.

"I can't think of a more critical time to invest in math and science education," said Will Swope, Intel's vice president and general manager, Corporate Affairs Group. "We will work with districts, schools and teachers around the world to help get students excited and engaged in math and science -- subjects that provide the foundation for innovation."

Intel has been a leader among corporations investing in America's education and training systems, having invested over $1 billion in education and more than 2 million employee volunteer hours in 50 countries over the past decade.  Additionally, the company has developed online teaching tools and community based learning programs.  With its latest contributions, Intel can now develop and support youth outreach programs and an online science community and science fair alumni network, which includes a mentoring program.
