June 23, 2009: On June 23, we hosted a discussion featuring the managing partner of McKinsey Moscow Yermolai Solzhenitsyn. An important study just completed by McKinsey explains the real challenges to productivity in several sectors of the Russian economy. In anticipation of President Obama's visit to Moscow, and many executives travelling there for various discussions, we would like to draw your attention to the data and conclusions contained in the report. There is a fascinating upside story here suggested by the substantial capacity of key Russian industries to improve productivity with minimal help (or interference) from the political center. By eliminating inefficiencies in business processes and replacing obsolete capacity, Russia still has a good chance to get back to gaining long-term prosperity.
