Export Control Modernization
Background
Advancing a modernized export control regime that is efficient and supports U.S. competitiveness and national security goals is a top Chamber priority.
The Chamber has been a key member of an export control modernization effort launched in March of 2007.
The Chamber is one of eight founding members of the Coalition for Security and Competitiveness, which has grown to 19 members.
The Coalition has written the Administration and offered recommendations for modernizing the export controls on munitions list and dual-use items.
The Chamber and other Coalition members have met with senior officials from the National Security Council, the Department of State, the Department of Commerce and the Department Defense (DOD) to discuss our recommendations.
A comprehensive interagency review of the export control modernization proposals was completed and President Bush signed a series of directives on January 22, 2008. We see the directives as contributing to making the system more efficient, predictable and transparent and enhancing the transfer of technology with our allies.
