Chamber Scores Three Important Victories

With the help of thousands of grassroots activists, the U.S. Chamber and its members have successfully convinced Congress to pass three major bills that will implement a national energy strategy for the first time in 30 years, help maintain our system of roads and bridges, and open new markets for your products and services in Central America.

The Chamber helped secure these victories by aggressively lobbying Capitol Hill, managing large coalitions, orchestrating grassroots activities, testifying before Congress, holding press conferences and rallies, and making its positions known in the media. But the key difference has been the active involvement of thousands of our small business members. Thank you for your efforts. Your voice has been heard!

Please see the sections below for more information on these pieces of legislation.

Comprehensive Energy Legislation

On Friday, July 29, Congress passed national energy legislation to spur domestic energy production, increase efficiency, modernize our electricity grid and energy delivery system, and invest in workable energy alternatives. In the long term, this bill will help make the United States less dependent on foreign oil.

DR-CAFTA

Congress has already passed the U.S.-Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement. This agreement will immediately eliminate 80% of tariffs on U.S. goods exported to the region and phase out the rest over 10 years, giving American businesses, workers, and farmers greater access to 44 million Central American consumers.
