Letter Supporting Senator DeMint's Substitute Amendment to S. 2663, the "CPSC Reform Act"
March 4, 2008
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region, strongly supports Senator DeMint’s substitute amendment to S. 2663, the “CPSC Reform Act,” which is currently being considered by the full Senate.
Although the Chamber has some concerns with provisions of the amendment, we believe it is a marked improvement over S. 2663 as introduced. Senator DeMint’s substitute, like its House counterpart, contains provisions that have garnered broad bipartisan support without the unnecessary and divisive provisions of S. 2663. The substitute is a reasonable compromise that ensures the CPSC will have the necessary resources to protect the public.
The Chamber strongly urges you to oppose S. 2663 in its current form. The Chamber may consider votes on, or in relation to, this issue in our annual How They Voted scorecard.
Sincerely, R. Bruce Josten |
