Letter supporting H.R. 3246, the "Advanced Vehicle Technology Act of 2009"
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region, supports H.R. 3246, the "Advanced Vehicle Technology Act of 2009," which would provide important research and development investment in near- and long-range technologies to improve vehicle efficiency, reduce emissions, and help support jobs.
H.R. 3246 would establish a program within the Department of Energy to commercialize a wide range of advanced technologies necessary to make cars and trucks more energy efficient. This program would help automobile companies adapt to a changing marketplace while simultaneously improving the environmental performance of their vehicles.
The Chamber urges Congress to approve this legislation, and will consider including votes on, or in relation to, this legislation in our annual How They Voted scorecard.
Sincerely,
R. Bruce Josten
