Letter supporting H.R. 3585, the "Solar Technology Roadmap Act"
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region, urges you to support H.R. 3585, the "Solar Technology Roadmap Act." Increased research, development, and demonstration of solar technology is crucial to America's energy security needs, and H.R. 3585 would help move one step closer to that goal.
The Department of Energy's Solar Energy Technology Program reports that solar energy is "on the verge of becoming a viable part of our nation's energy supply, but challenges must still be overcome before it is competitive with conventional energy sources." Chief among these challenges is cost. To make solar electricity more competitive, the Chamber supports increased funding for research, development, and demonstration for solar projects. H.R. 3585 would accomplish this goal not only by providing additional federal funding for solar technology, but also by emphasizing the importance of industry collaboration.
The Chamber urges you to support H.R. 3585. The Chamber may consider votes on, or in relation to, this issue in our annual How They Voted scorecard.
Sincerely,
R. Bruce Josten
