Hill Letter to Senators Carper and Bennett Applauding S. 3579, the “Data Security Act of 2010"
July 15, 2010
The Honorable Thomas Carper
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
The Honorable Robert Bennett
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senators Carper and Bennett:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the
interests of more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region,
applauds the introduction S. 3579, the “Data Security Act of 2010.”
The protection of consumers’ sensitive personal information is one of the top priorities of
the business community. However, currently there are more than 45 states with their own data
security bills, presenting a difficult and confusing patchwork of laws for companies to adhere to.
This legislation would successfully provide U.S. businesses with a consistent and predictable
national framework for data security and breach notification.
The Chamber thanks you again for your leadership on this important issue, and looks
forward to working with you and your staff on this bill.
Sincerely,
R. Bruce Josten
