Dear Senators Lautenberg and Vitter:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations, and dedicated to promoting, protecting, and defending America’s free enterprise system, strongly supports your effort to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) with the recent introduction of S. 1009, the “Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013.” This is a bipartisan TSCA reform bill that would promote American innovation, economic growth and job creation, while protecting public health and the environment.

The “Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013” would require EPA to use the best available science and technology to test and assess risks in order to make well-informed policy and regulatory decisions. One of the Chamber’s top priorities is regulatory reform – therefore we greatly appreciate the steps your bill would take to increase transparency and streamline the review process as it relates to TSCA.

Our members depend on a predictable regulatory environment that ensures consumer confidence and promotes innovation, growth and job creation by companies in the United States. The “Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013” would strike an essential balance between enhanced safety and continued innovation and growth that previous efforts have failed to do.

The Chamber commends you for your leadership on the “Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013,” and looks forward to working with you to advance this important legislation.

Sincerely,
R. Bruce Josten
