Native American Enterprise Initiative
The U.S. Chamber is one of Washington’s most influential advocacy organizations. It is an institution in its own right, having celebrated its 100th anniversary in April 2012. Today, more than ever, Washington needs to hear the voice of the American business community to ensure a balanced policy agenda that keeps our economy growing and puts millions of Americans back to work. As part of its efforts to reflect the rich and diverse nature of the American economy, the Chamber is launching the Native American Enterprise Initiative (NAEI) to promote the interests and agenda of tribes and tribal entrepreneurs.
The Native American Enterprise Initiative seeks to build on the Chamber’s record of success and advocacy by focusing on the unique economic issues confronting tribal business entities and Native American-owned enterprises. Some of this work is already under way. The Chamber has already filed amicus briefs in support of tribal interests before the Supreme Court. But much more can and should be done.
In Indian Country, a quiet revolution of entrepreneurship and economic diversification continues to expand and provide an increasing set of challenges for tribes and tribal enterprises. NAEI seeks to capture this important opportunity in our nation’s economic future and expand the Chamber’s advocacy to this emerging sector of our economy.
Drawing on the Chambers longstanding track record of successful business advocacy, NAEI will provide value to Indian Country by removing legislative and regulatory road blocks to their economic success.
