Science Advancing Society: Life Science Innovation and America's Health

Featuring the 1st Annual Life Sciences Awards


Monday June 9, 2008
Registration & Breakfast: 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Program & Lunch: 10:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Public health issues are among the most important challenges our society faces. This forum will explore the importance of advancements in life sciences and biomedical research to America's health. It will include a discussion of the forthcoming white paper, Measuring Biomedical Progress, authored by Dr. Scott Gottlieb, resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, the U.S. Chamber and the Christopher Columbus Foundation have partnered to present the inaugural Life Sciences Awards. The Life Sciences Awards will recognize individuals that have shown exemplary work in the life sciences field.

 

Awards categories are as follows:

  • $25,000 Chairmen's Distinguished Life Sciences Award—presented to anadult scientist/researcher working in the field of life sciences.
  •  $10,000 Life Sciences Educator Award—presented to a currentsecondary school educator promoting the study of life sciences.
  • $5,000 Biology Student Award—presented to a current secondary student making contributions to the study of biology.
  • $5,000 Chemistry Student Award—presented to a current secondary student making contributions to the study of chemistry.
