U.S. Chamber Discusses Solutions to Economic and Regulatory Barriers Facing Entrepreneurs

‘Overregulated, underfinanced start-ups are preventing dreams from becoming a reality,’ Anderson Says

WASHINGTON, D.C.–As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce brought together business leaders, government officials, and entrepreneurial experts to discuss potential solutions to the economic and regulatory barriers inhibiting the growth of entrepreneurship. The event, presented by the U.S. Chamber’s Campaign for Free Enterprise and National Chamber Foundation, featured a series of panel discussions with a focus on immigration policy and the lack of financing available for start-up businesses.

“The entrepreneurial spirit is the backbone of the American Dream,” said Stan Anderson, managing director of the Campaign for Free Enterprise. “Overregulated, underfinanced start-ups are preventing dreams from becoming a reality. Global Entrepreneurship Week helps raise awareness of the importance behind developing innovative ideas and products that will propel the much-needed growth of our economy.”

Today’s discussion addressed the steps that need to be taken to develop more progressive immigration policies in order to attract and keep highly skilled foreign workers and entrepreneurs in the United States. In addition, the conversation focused on the importance of available financing for entrepreneurs as well as the implications on tax policy for start-ups.

Today’s event is part of a broader effort by the Campaign for Free Enterprise to promote Global Entrepreneurship Week—a global initiative to bring together individuals across several fields, ranging from students to government officials, to generate new ideas and promote creativity. The campaign’s efforts during the week include a video, a mobile texting campaign, and a rally of the campaign’s nearly 95,000 Facebook supporters.
