U.S. Chamber Calls on Senate to Pass Long-Term FAA Reauthorization Legislation

Bill ‘Supports Much-Needed Job Creation,’ Says Kavinoky

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Janet Kavinoky, executive director of Transportation and Infrastructure at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, today issued the following statement applauding recent passage of H.R. 658, the “Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011,” in the House of Representatives and called on the Senate to follow suit.

“Now is the time to act and for the Senate to finish up the long-term authorization of the nation’s aviation policies, programs, and resources.  American businesses - large and small - are impacted by this legislation, which is why we must give them the certainty of a long-term bill.

“Few pieces of legislation making their way through Congress right now can rival the positive economic impact that infrastructure investment can have on the economy.  Investment in America’s transportation system is important to U.S. productivity and economic competitiveness in the long term, and supports much-needed job creation in the near term.

“This bill improves and modernizes the entirety of the air traffic control system, a system that is at the heart of America’s aviation woes.  The need to act is clear, which is why the Chamber continues to call on the Senate to complete its work on a strong, long-term FAA reauthorization bill.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
