U.S. Chamber's Donohue Receives Horatio Alger Award

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue received the 2013 Horatio Alger Award at a ceremony held Friday in Washington, D.C. The award, given this year to a distinguished group of 11 business and nonprofit leaders, recognizes individuals who, through remarkable achievements and community leadership, have demonstrated initiative, commitment to excellence, and perseverance through adversity. Recipients must also exhibit dedication to assisting others and possess a willingness to contribute to the Horatio Alger Association’s mission of providing scholarships for younger generations.

“I am humbled to receive this award and join the ranks of its many accomplished recipients,” said Donohue. “This recognition is particularly meaningful for me because the principles championed by the Horatio Alger Association and demonstrated by its members–hard work, honesty, perseverance–have helped guide me both personally and professionally. The organization does so much to help young people pursue the American Dream, and it is a great honor to be associated with such a worthy endeavor.”
