U.S. Chamber Supports APCAC Principles for Comprehensive, High‐Standard Trade Agreements

WASHINGTON D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Asia Tami Overby issued the following statement today regarding the Asia‐Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) declaration in support of comprehensive and high‐standard trade agreements:

"Today’s declaration from APCAC is a welcome step in the right direction toward ensuring that countries across Asia, particularly those participating in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, are committed to trade agreements with the United States, countries around the world and their friends across the region that will strengthen the global economy and produce long lasting benefits for the people of their respective countries.

“The American business community is pleased to see this commitment to such critical principles.  Comprehensive, high-quality, innovative and enforceable agreements are the best way for all countries party to trade negotiations to reap the benefits of trade and investment, strengthening our economies and providing opportunities for growth.

“We share APCAC’s hope that these principles will not only be key aspects of agreements still under negotiation, like the TPP, but also those that the United States and countries across Asia will negotiate and finalize for many years to come.”
