U.S. Chamber Applauds Senate Rejection of Becker

Urges President to Respect the Democratic Process and Nominate a Mainstream Candidate

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President of Labor, Immigration, and Employee Benefits, Randel K. Johnson, released the following statement commending the Senate for rejecting Craig Becker's nomination to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and urging the White House to listen to bipartisan opposition to this nominee.

"We applaud the Senate's bipartisan vote against Craig Becker's nomination to the NLRB. His views are well outside the mainstream and would disrupt years of established precedent in current labor law. While today's vote was commendable, the news that the White House is now considering the possibility of recess appointments is very concerning. To do so on this particular nominee would circumvent the bipartisan rejection of the U.S. Senate. We urge the President to respect the democratic process and nominate a new candidate to replace Becker in the mold of the other two NLRB nominees."

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
