United States Chamber of Commerce Announces Creation of New Logistics Council

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The United States Chamber of Commerce today announced the creation of a new Logistics Council that will aggressively explore supply-chain issues and make recommendations for action on its legislative agenda.

In Atlanta today at the council's first conference, co-sponsored by Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown and Deloitte & Touche, Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue announced the new council by saying, "Logistics is a young and highly competitive industry, characterized by IT innovation and constantly changing customer demands. Because of their criticality to the U.S. economy, third party logistics providers are experiencing explosive growth, from an estimated $40 billion this year to $50 billion next year, and with 20 percent growth projected annually for the next five years."

The new council is the only advocacy group representing businesses throughout the entire supply chain, and is made up of top industry executives who will advance a public policy agenda that strongly supports investment in transportation infrastructure, technology innovation, international trade, and e-commerce initiatives.

"What makes this council unique is that it represents all participants in the supply chain and will engage in advocacy on issues central to logistics," Donohue added.

The group assembled to shape the direction of the council is a virtual multi-modal Who's Who, including UPS Logistics Group, Overnight Transportation Co., Landstar Systems Holdings, Inc., Ruan Transportation Management Systems, Sabre, Inc., Allied Holdings, DaimlerChrysler AG, and Wegman's Food Markets.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
