WASHINGTON, D.C.—The United States Chamber of Commerce today announced that United Parcel Service of America, Inc., the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines were the winners of the first-annual international Center for Corporate Citizenship (CCC) Awards for exceptional community involvement.

"Last year, corporate America gave over $11 billion in financial assistance to their communities and billions more in in-kind assistance, use of facilities and employee voluntarism," said Amb. Craig Johnstone, U.S. Chamber senior vice president for international affairs and CCC president, presenting the awards at a Chamber dinner. "It's time to give credit where credit is due by recognizing outstanding corporate citizens in the U.S. and abroad."

United Parcel Service, headquartered in Atlanta, received the CCC Corporate Award for providing education and training for women and minorities and implementing environmental initiatives in the communities in which it operates.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines were co-recipients of the CCC Chamber Award. AmCham Korea was honored for creating job and educational opportunities for the Korean people, and AmCham Philippines, for creating a youth development program for street children and a disaster management program.

At the Chamber dinner, the Kenan Institute for Private Enterprise and the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) also presented awards to top corporate benefactors. The Kenan Institute awarded its Henry Morrison Flagler Award to Ted Turner for demonstrating exceptional entrepreneurial leadership. The CECP presented its award to Merck for its outstanding philanthropic efforts.

The Center for Corporate Citizenship – the Chamber's humanitarian arm – provides corporate citizenship policy and program support for Chamber members. The winners of this year's awards were selected from six corporations and six chambers nominated by the CCC Advisory Board. The CCC Advisory Board consists of 18 companies and chambers of commerce, including Cargill, General Motors, State Farm, Texaco, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
