U.S. Chamber Applauds Outgoing Chairman
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce today praised Kelly Stanley for his outstanding service as the Chamber's chairman for 2000-2001. Stanley, president and CEO of the Ontario Corporation in Muncie, IN, ends his term this week.
"Kelly did a tremendous job in promoting the Chamber policy priorities during his chairmanship," said Thomas J. Donohue, Chamber president and CEO. "Membership numbers have gone up and U.S. businesses won several important legislative victories during his term."
During the year, Stanley traveled to more than 30 states and nearly 50 cities, addressing state and local chambers and other business leaders and urging them to support the Chamber in it's advancement of the business agenda. He also introduced President Bush during a tax day address at the Chamber headquarters that was viewed via satellite at chambers across the country.
The Chamber scored major wins for business during Stanley's term —solidifying permanent normal trade relations with China with an intense lobbying effort on Capitol Hill, defeating OSHA's controversial ergonomics proposal, as well as the EPA's costly and unsound air and water quality regulations and leveling the playing field with trial lawyers whose frivolous class action lawsuits have attacked legitimate U.S. businesses and industries. The 2000 elections also saw the Chamber support and help elect more pro-business candidates to the House and Senate.
Stanley will serve as chairman of the Chamber's Executive Committee next year in addition to his duties with Ontario Corporation.
Ontario Corporation is a privately owned diversified technology company serving customers in the semiconductor, aviation, petroleum, accounts receivable, and independent laboratory industries.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses of every size, sector and region.
