U.S. Chamber Applauds House Budget
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The United States Chamber of Commerce applauded today's House vote in support of a federal budget package that provides tax relief for all Americans and sets responsible limits on government spending increases.
"This is a big victory for small businesses and everyone who pays taxes - it's now up to the Senate to do their part," said Thomas Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "This budget is an important building block for continued economic growth. Across-the-board tax relief, controls on government spending, debt reduction, protection for Social Security and Medicare - it's all in there."
Members of Congress heard loud and clear from the business community over the past few months that there is tremendous support for a cut in marginal tax rates. The Chamber's Grassroots Action Information Network - or GAIN - motivated tens of thousands of businesses across the country to phone, write or lobby their senators and representative.
Furthermore, the Chamber is a leader of the Tax Relief Coalition, a rapidly growing group of several hundred-trade associations, chambers of commerce, businesses and citizens groups that advocate for the broadest possible tax cut package.
"The sharp slowdown in economic growth makes now the time for the federal government to act," said Donohue. "And the first order of business is tax relief that puts more money into the hands of American consumers."
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
