WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce today applauded President Bush's new directive to improve immigration policies and practices to tighten security at America's borders.

"We fully support the administration's prioritized review of our immigration laws to ensure that the tragic events of September 11 are not repeated," said Randy Johnson, Chamber vice-president for labor and employee benefits. "The directive's ordering of a multifaceted approach, including better coordination of agencies to ensure the maximum compatibility of immigration, customs and visa policies, and recognizing the important role technology can play as an aid to immigration enforcement is crucial to that end. We are also encouraged by the administration's call for greater cooperation between U.S. agencies and their Canadian and Mexican counterparts."
The Americans for Better Borders coalition, chaired by the Chamber, unites regional business organizations, companies and national trade associations to ensure the flow of exports and tourism across our borders while addressing national security concerns.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses of every size, sector and region.
