U.S. Chamber Applauds Senate Energy Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Chamber of Commerce today applauded the Senate for passing a national energy policy and said that it will continue to push for comprehensive ways to reduce U.S. dependency on foreign oil.

"The Senate's vote is a big step in the right direction," said Bruce Josten, U.S. Chamber executive vice president. "But, we still have a long way to go to have a truly comprehensive energy plan that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and increase our national and economic security. We will continue to work with the House and Senate to make sure that we have the energy we need for our future."

Last year, the House passed comprehensive energy policy legislation — H.R. 4, the Securing America's Future Energy Act of 2001. Elements of the House bill must be added to the Senate effort in conference to ensure a reliable and affordable domestic supply. With the two bills combined, the country would have a balanced energy plan that expands the use of all domestic sources of energy including nuclear power and renewable fuels.
