U.S. Chamber Plans Cargo Security Summit
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Chamber of Commerce will gather senior government officials and business and industry leaders on April 24 for a National Chamber Foundation summit that will explore post-9/11 challenges facing the U.S. cargo industry and ways to enhance transportation security while safeguarding the air, land, and sea supply chain that feeds the just-in-time economy.
"The message from this summit will be simple: our economy relies on a secure and dependable supply chain," said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue. "Government and industry leaders need to work together to enhance security while protecting the millions of businesses that depend on the timely delivery of goods and services."
Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta will give the luncheon keynote address for the full-day conference — "Securing the Supply Chain: Cargo Logistics and the American Economy" — which will examine the nation's transportation system in light of the heightened-security environment and explore ways to improve the air, land, and sea shipping network to meet security, safety, business, and economic needs.
Panel discussions will feature key administration officials, House and Senate committee members, and business and association leaders on topics including the legislative and regulatory outlook for the cargo industry, technology's role in safeguarding the supply chain, and North American border security challenges.
The National Chamber Foundation expects more than three hundred participants for the conference. The preliminary agenda is available on the Chamber's Web site. For more information or to register for the event, the public should call NCF at 202-463-5500.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
