U.S. Chamber Addresses Online Privacy Concerns
WASHINGTON, DC — The United States Chamber of Commerce today released "Privacy Made Simple," a guide to online privacy management, in conjunction with the Privacy Leadership Initiative (PLI). This do-it-yourself manual offers a comprehensive look at the privacy issues that companies face and provides workable solutions to real-world problems.
"Small and medium-sized businesses are increasingly looking to e-commerce as a way to reach new customers and streamline operations," said William Kovacs, the U.S. Chamber's vice president of environment, technology, and regulatory affairs. "Protecting consumer privacy is a critical component of doing business online."
The handbook is designed primarily for small and medium-sized companies that are looking to develop or upgrade their online privacy policies and notices. It includes an assessment tool for current practices, an overview of legal requirements, targeted information dealing with child restrictions and European Union regulations, and a comprehensive glossary of privacy terms.
"Our goal is to make consumer privacy a priority in the business community and to give businesses the means to meet their customers' expectations," said David M. Klaus, executive director of the PLI. "The Chamber is a critical resource for thousands of businesses, and we are delighted to join them in making this tool freely available to those who need it most."
Privacy Made Simple is available for free download.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
