Landstar Chairman Crowe Elected Vice Chairman of U.S. Chamber of Commerce

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Chamber of Commerce board of directors has elected Jeffrey Crowe, chairman and CEO and of Landstar Systems, Inc., as vice chairman for 2002-2003. Landstar is one of the largest transportation capacity providers in the U.S., with a network of more than 8,500 trucks, 11,000 broker carriers, and 1,000 agent locations.

"Jeff's experience in leading one of the premier transportation companies in the country makes him an excellent choice for this position," said Thomas J. Donohue, U.S. Chamber president and CEO. "He will be a vital part of spreading the Chamber's message on business issues and policies."

During his term as vice chairman, Crowe will work closely with Donohue and new Chairman Larry Liebenow of Quaker Fabrics, traveling the country and addressing state and local chambers and other business leaders.

The Chamber's priorities for the upcoming year include addressing the number of Americans without adequate health insurance, blocking frivolous class-action lawsuits against companies and industries, eliminating tariffs and barriers to international trade, pursuing immigration reform to increase security and address national workforce issues, and electing pro-business representatives to Congress.

Crowe has served on the U.S. Chamber's board since 1998, working on both the Transportation and the Education, Employment, and Training committees. He's also served as a board director for the National Chamber Foundation, the Chamber's public policy think tank.

A graduate of Drake University, Crowe has served on the boards of SunTrust Bank of North Florida and the ENO Transportation Foundation, among others. He also serves as chairman of the National Defense Transportation Association. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the National Transportation Award in 1996 and Financial World Magazine's Transportation CEO of the Year in 1995. He and his wife Mary reside in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., with their daughter Christie.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses of every size, sector and region.
