Chamber Applauds Snow Confirmation
WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas Donohue applauded Senate approval of John Snow for Secretary of the Treasury, saying the confirmation ensures the administration's economic recovery and job growth agenda has a strong advocate on Capitol Hill and throughout the nation.
"John Snow will be an effective voice for the President's economic program as laid out in the State of the Union address," said Donohue. "Snow recognizes that stimulating robust economic growth will provide more jobs, protect our standard of living, and pay for the domestic policy initiatives desired by Democrats and Republicans alike.
"Confirming John Snow is an important step in advancing the debate on economic growth. He has the full support of the business community as he moves to get our economic engine back on track.
"Snow combines leadership and experience as the chief executive of a large railroad company, a Ph.D. in economics, and a proven public policy pro during the Ford administration. His experience and his understanding of the public policy process and, more importantly, how it affects the real world, make Snow an ideal candidate for Treasury Secretary," Donohue concluded.
The Chamber is a strong supporter of the President's economic recovery plan and will assist the White House economic team gather the necessary congressional numbers for passage. Recent economic reports have shown the economy to be growing, although unevenly and below its full potential. Putting more disposable income in the hands of consumers, and making those changes permanent, while opening new windows of opportunity for businesses to invest, will have the greatest positive impact on the economy, according to the Chamber.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
