Chamber Names New International SVP

WASHINGTON, DC—The United States Chamber of Commerce announced Lt. General Daniel Christman, U.S. Army (Ret.), would become its new Senior Vice President for International Affairs. In this position, Christman will provide valuable insight, leadership and focus for the Chamber's pro-business policies in the international marketplace.

"Dan Christman brings a wealth of experience to the Chamber at a critical time," said Thomas Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "While trade and technology make the world a smaller, more connected place – U.S. business interests in the global community are expanding. Dan will help ensure the resources of the U.S. business community meet the growing demands faced by member companies here and around the world."

Reporting directly to Thomas Donohue, Christman will represent the Chamber with foreign business leaders and government officials; provide strategic leadership on international issues and lend his considerable management expertise to the Chamber's members, staff and programs.

Christman has served as the president and executive director of the Kimsey Foundation for the last two years, where he helped launch an important program regarding political reform in China in coordination with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. At the same time, he worked on critical initiatives to improve the quality of education in Washington, D.C. public schools.

Immediately prior to his present position, Christman served for five years as the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Christman also served for two years in the Clinton administration as Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and traveled with and advised Secretary of State Warren Christopher. He is a combat veteran of Southeast Asia, where he commanded a company in the 101st Airborne Division in 1969.

Graduating first in his class from West Point, Christman also received MPA and MSE degrees in public affairs and civil engineering from Princeton University and graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School.
