John Bachmann Elected Vice Chairman of U.S. Chamber of Commerce
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce board of directors elected John Bachmann, managing partner with Edward Jones in St. Louis, as Vice Chairman for 2003-2004. Edward Jones is one of the leading financial investment firms in the world, serving individual investors and business owners in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.
"John brings a wealth of experience and business savvy to this position," said Thomas J. Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "He will be an integral part of spreading the Chamber's pro-business message to our members and partners both here in the United States and overseas."
During his term as Vice Chairman, Bachmann will work closely with Donohue and new Chairman Jeffrey Crowe of Landstar Systems, traveling the country and addressing state and local chambers, American Chambers of Commerce abroad and other business leaders. The Chamber's priorities for the upcoming year include promoting steady economic growth through tax relief, addressing the rising cost of healthcare and pursuing medical liability reform, pushing for public-private partnerships in the protection of the nation's infrastructure and homeland security, lobbying for full reauthorization of critical transportation investment measures, and electing pro-business representatives to Congress.
Bachmann has served on the U.S. Chamber's board since 1995, working on a number of different committees and also serving as a Regional Vice Chairman since 2001. Under Bachmann's leadership, Edward Jones was twice topped Fortune magazine's list of "The Best Company to Work For." Bachmann served as a member of the board of the Chicago Stock Exchange and served two consecutive terms as Chairman of the Securities Industry Association. He also chaired the 2002 campaign for the United Way of Greater St. Louis and the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association. He is currently a member of the board of AMR Corporation, parent of American Airlines and the National Association of Securities Dealers. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Wabash College, as well as a master's in finance from Northwestern University.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses of every size, sector and region.
