Chamber Delivers Small Business Platform to RNC, DNC
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce called on the national political parties to promote policies and individuals who support small business owners, in a report delivered to the Republican and Democratic National Committees.
"It's easy to find candidates who say they support small businesses, but talk is cheap," said Thomas Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "We will be looking for lawmakers who back up their promises with real work to rein in big government, lift heavy-handed regulations and end lawsuit abuse."
America's 23 million small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers, account for more than half of all private sector workers and generate three out of every four new jobs, according to the Chamber's "Small Business Platform." Additionally, small firms account for one-third of U.S. exports and more than half of the gross domestic product.
The new report, delivered to the RNC and DNC during Small Business Week, outlines eight agenda items for candidates for state and national office: Health Care, Workforce Flexibility, Tax Relief, Red Tape, Frivolous Lawsuits, Government Resources, International Trade, and Infrastructure.
"American workers need lawmakers who will support the kinds of pro-growth policies that will boost small business owners," said Donohue. "This election cycle we will separate the talkers from the doers."
The Chamber has launched an online resource for its members – VoteforBusiness.com – to dramatically increase the number of businesses involved in the political process and increase the reach of the Chamber's political advocacy efforts. VoteforBusiness.com will walk voters through the entire process, from registering to vote, to learning about business-related issues, to requesting absentee ballots for voters who can't make it to the polls.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
