Chamber Taps Ambassador Carol Hallett To Serve Of Counsel
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce today welcomed Ambassador Carol Hallett to serve Of Counsel to the Chamber. Hallett will assist on several initiatives including travel and tourism, counterfeiting, and corporate governance.
"Carol has been an asset to the Chamber for a long time – first as a member, then as a Board member – and now we have the benefit of her experience and considerable skill as a member of our staff," said Thomas Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "Her knowledge and experience will be a tremendous benefit in advancing our agenda on the Hill and in the regulatory agencies."
Most recently, Hallett led the Homeland Security practice at the Carmen Group, one of Washington's most successful legislative consulting groups. While at Carmen, she served as a consultant to the Chamber on homeland security issues. Prior to joining the Chamber, Hallett served eight years as President and CEO of the Air Transport Association. She was also a former Commissioner of Customs from 1989 to 1993.
"The means to moving the ball on our programs is the team behind them – and Carol is a proven leader," said Donohue. "I expect to call on her wisdom and knowledge of transportation, security and corporate governance issues early and often."
Hallett is a former Ambassador to the Bahamas, former Minority Leader of the California State Assembly, and a national and international authority on trade, transportation, and security issues. In addition to her work with the Chamber, Hallett serves as a member of the National Security Advisory Panel to the Director of Central Intelligence (with top secret clearance) and Co-Chair of the Transnational Threats Advisory Group of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She serves on the Boards of Directors of the Mutual of Omaha, Rolls Royce North America, and Fleming Companies.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
