Chamber Praises Confirmation of New SEC Chairman

WASHINGTON, D.C.—United States Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue made the following statement regarding today's confirmation of U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox (R-CA) as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman.

"Throughout Cox's distinguished career as a member of Congress, he has built an impressive record as a legislator and as a leader on securities regulation. He has extensive experience dealing with securities law through the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Financial Services Committee, and I believe that the SEC and the securities markets will benefit from his leadership.

"Cox understands the importance of transparency and accountability in the financial markets and that regulations should be effective without being burdensome. We will work with him to ensure the future competitiveness of America's financial markets. It is crucial that we have markets that reward good ideas and where entrepreneurs can continue to take risks."

The Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
