U.S. Chamber Elects Maura Donahue Chair
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce board of directors elected Maura W. Donahue, president of DonahueFavret Contractors Holding Company, as its new chair for the year beginning today.
"Maura has spent her career successfully building a small business from the ground up," said Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue. "No one understands the challenges of growing a business better. She will add a tremendous amount of credibility and determination in the fight for small business expansion and job growth."
"Maura's chairmanship represents an exciting new chapter at the Chamber," added Suzanne Clark, Chamber chief operating officer and executive vice president. "She symbolizes the vitality of our nation's 22 million small businesses."
Donahue will work to rein in skyrocketing health care costs, bring under control frivolous litigation, and reduce burdensome government regulations.
"More than 60 percent of the 45 million Americans without health insurance are full-time workers and their dependents," Donahue said. "We need to enact measures that will expand access to health care."
Donahue, who has a long history of involvement with her local and state chambers, will also continue her efforts to unite and strengthen the Chamber Federation – 3 million businesses and 2,800 chambers strong. Donahue has served on the U.S. Chamber's board of directors since 1998 and has chaired the organization's Council on Small Business for the last five years. She currently serves on the boards of Greater New Orleans, Inc., St. Tammany Parish Economic Development Foundation, and Resource Bank.
DonahueFavret Contractors Inc., has won nine awards for construction excellence by the National Association of Builders and Contractors. Donahue was awarded person of the year by the Associated Builders and Contractors Bayou Chapter and Woman of the Year by the New Orleans Publishing Group.
The U.S. Chamber is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
