U.S. Chamber Presents Corporate Citizenship Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The United States Chamber of Commerce Center for Corporate Citizenship (CCC) announced the winners of the 2005 Corporate Citizenship Awards, which recognize businesses and chambers that have demonstrated ethical leadership and corporate stewardship.

"In 2005, we saw remarkable contributions by the business community in terms of disaster assistance, community service, and international relief," said Chamber Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Suzanne Clark. "All the nominees represent exceptional companies whose business success is measured by more than bottom line results."

CCC announced the winners during its annual awards dinner on November 8 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, and Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter presented the following awards:

  • The Citizenship in Action Award—Presented to the entire U.S. business community for its role in tsunami aid and reconstruction. One hundred forty-six companies each gave more than $1 million; overall corporate aid reached nearly $570 million in cash and products and services.
  • The U.S. Community Service Award—Presented to Xerox for its contribution to long-term social and economic development in its communities.
  • The International Community Service Award—Presented to Alticor for its One by One campaign, focusing on orphans, at-risk girls, blind children, and other children in need throughout the world.
  • The Corporate Stewardship Small/Midsize Business Award—Presented to Citizens Financial Group for its strong commitment to communities in need of affordable housing, food services, neighborhood revitalization, and job creation.
  • The Corporate Stewardship Large Business Award—Presented to General Electric for its corporate governance, environmental management, volunteerism, corporate philanthropy, and commitment to improving community social conditions.
