Chamber Endorses Samuel Alito as Supreme Court Associate Justice
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce today endorsed Samuel A. Alito to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Associate Justice.
"Without question, Judge Alito is a well-qualified nominee for the High Court," said Thomas J. Donohue, Chamber President and CEO. "Throughout his career he has shown a great deal of integrity and a reasoned judicial temperament that would serve our country well. He has also expressed a belief in the stability and predictability of the law which American business relies upon to plan for the needs of their employees and customers."
Following a policy instituted in 1987, the Chamber consulted with lawyers affiliated with its public policy law firm, the National Chamber Litigation Center, as well as the Litigation Center's Board of Directors, and the Chamber's Executive Committee as to Judge Alito's judicial philosophy and understanding of business concerns. Particular focus was devoted to Judge Alito's substantial body of opinions and published writings. Since 1987, the Chamber has endorsed the nominations of Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justices Souter, Thomas, Ginsburg and Breyer.
The Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region. The National Chamber Litigation Center is a membership organization that advocates fair treatment of business in the courts and before regulatory agencies.
