WASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today expressed its strong support for the newly created U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue, saying it will help expand cooperation between the two nations on key issues, including intellectual property rights (IPR), global economic imbalances, energy security, and environmental protection.

 

"The U.S. Chamber welcomes the creation of this elevated dialogue because it will promote increased engagement in the critical relationship between the U.S. and China," said Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donohue. "Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is the right man to lead this effort-he has the background and expertise to guide the United States in its increasingly complex and wide-ranging interactions with the People's Republic."

 

The Chamber said the creation of the new dialogue, along with the existing Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade and the Joint Economic Commission, will substantially increase communication between the U.S. and Chinese governments at the highest levels. 

 

As part of the effort to foster an improved environment for high-level discussions, Donohue urged the continuation of results-oriented dialogues that resolve pressing issues in this commercial relationship. "The U.S. Chamber stands ready and willing to work with U.S. and Chinese officials to develop constructive solutions to challenging issues in the bilateral relationship," he said.
