U.S. Chamber Sees Promise in Bush Proposal on Health Care, Will Study Plan Closely
WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Chamber Executive Vice President R. Bruce Josten issued the following statement on President Bush's proposed plan to make health care coverage more affordable:
"For years the Chamber has supported tax-deductibility of premiums for individuals and self-employed. We are pleased that the administration is promoting the idea of parity for employer-purchased and individual-purchased health coverage. This would, in effect, provide a 'level playing field' for individuals, self-employed, small businesses, and large businesses.
"We are encouraged that the White House is attempting to present market-based solutions to the critical problems of the uninsured and the skyrocketing costs of health insurance. We look forward to seeing more details of this plan and will analyze it carefully."
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
