U.S. Chamber Applauds Industry Efforts to Work Together to Fight Internet Piracy

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Caroline Joiner, executive director of the Chamber's Global Intellectual Property Center issued the following statement on the announcement byleading media, technology, and internet companies that they are joining together in a concerted effort to protect online copyrights. The companies include CBS Corp., Dailymotion, Fox Entertainment Group, Microsoft Corp., MySpace, NBC Universal, Veoh Networks Inc., Viacom Inc. and The Walt Disney Company.

"Intellectual Property (IP) is the cornerstone of economic prosperity and growth and we must protect it. The Internet has become a breeding ground for IP theft and the Chamber applauds efforts within industry to unite and take aggressive steps to combat it. Industry to industry agreements like this, that find creative solutions without the need for new regulations or litigation, are essential to long-term success."
