U.S. Chamber Names Union Initiative Director
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today announced that Glenn Spencer has been promoted to Executive Director of the Workforce Freedom Initiative, the Chamber's grassroots mobilization and advocacy campaign to counter the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as "Card Check," and other organized labor priorities
Spencer served as Acting Chief of Staff to Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao before he joined the U.S. Chamber last year as Director of Research for the new initiative. He has extensive experience in grassroots lobbying and issue advocacy through his prior work with Citizens for a Sound Economy and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
"Glenn's well-deserved promotion marks a significant escalation of our efforts to counter the anti-growth agenda of organized labor," said Tom Donohue, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. "His grasp of the issues and practical experience will ensure effective management of this top-priority Chamber initiative."
"The Chamber works cooperatively with organized labor where we have a shared vision of creating jobs and opportunity. But when some in the labor movement want to deprive workers of basic protections and strangle our economy with new regulations, we need to aggressively counter that agenda," said Spencer.
The Workforce Freedom Initiative is a multimillion-dollar grassroots mobilization and advocacy campaign to preserve democracy in the American workplace, restrain abusive union pension fund activism, and block the anti-competitive agenda advocated by many labor unions. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
