U.S. Chamber Rolls Out "VoteForBusiness Bandwagon"
Campaign will Build Awareness about Pro-business Policies that Create Jobs
WASHINGTON, D.C.–- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today unveiled the newest component of its 2008 election outreach efforts: The "VoteForBusiness Bandwagon." Two buses will embark on separate cross-country trips to promote issues and candidates important to the business community before arriving in Denver and Minneapolis for the political conventions.
"The results of this year's election will have an enormous impact on the competitiveness of our country's businesses and workers," said Bill Miller, the U.S. Chamber's senior vice president for political affairs and federation relations and the national political director. "Through these tours, we're setting out to build awareness about how policy issues in Washington impact millions of Americans' jobs."
The first bus departs from Atlanta on August 8. Crossing 15 states it will cover over 5,000 miles before arriving in Denver for the Democratic National Convention. After a public and press launch event in Washington, DC on August 14, the second bus will roll out of Washington, DC cross 17 states and cover over 3,000 miles before arriving in Minneapolis for the Republican National Convention.
Along the way, the bus will be the centerpiece of Senate and House candidate endorsements and voter education events hosted by U.S. Chamber members. The bus will also be visible at sporting events and state fairs.
"Our goal is to educate, motivate, and turnout the pro-business votes this fall," Miller said "By partnering with state and local chambers and our members in targeted areas we're mobilizing voters for this critical election."
During the U.S. Chamber's inaugural 2006 "VoteForBusiness Bandwagon" program, the U.S. Chamber devoted significant resources to educate voters and organize get-out-the-vote efforts and worked with its members in 277 key Senate and House races.
