U.S. Chamber Pledges to Work with LaHood to Strengthen America's Transportation Infrastructure
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement on President-elect Barack Obama's selection of Congressman Ray LaHood (R-IL) to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation:
"The United States is facing a multitude of transportation infrastructure challenges that threaten our nation's economic stability, competitiveness, and potential for job growth.
"Next year Congress and the administration will have a full slate of critical transportation legislation to address, presenting an opportunity to maintain, modernize and expand the nation's transportation system. Our elected officials will have to make some tough choices and Congressman's LaHood's track record of working across the aisle will help get the job done.
"The U.S. Chamber stands ready to work together with Congressman LaHood and the transportation team to enact meaningful legislation that addresses the United States' transportation infrastructure challenges, as well as supports the needs of the 21st century economy."
