U.S. Chamber Blitzes Senate Battleground States with Pro-Business, Pro-Jobs Voter Education Campaign

Bus Tour and Field Team to Build Awareness for Issues that Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C.–- Making a final blitz of Senate battleground states before Election Day, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will re-launch its VoteForBusiness bus today for a five-day, 10-state campaign to educate voters about pro-business issues that will create jobs and stimulate the economy.

"Because of the current state of the economy and the issues Congress could take up next year, the results of this election will have an enormous impact on our country's businesses and workers," said Bill Miller, the U.S. Chamber's senior vice president for political affairs. "Through these tours, we're building awareness among voters about how policy issues in Washington impact millions of Americans' jobs."

Rolling through a total of 10 states and over 1,500 miles, the bus makes its first stop in Winston Salem, NC on Thursday, October 23. From there it will be the centerpiece of Senate and House voter education events in Abingdon, VA, Paducah, KY, Oxford and Jackson, MS before wrapping up the five day tour in Baton Rouge, LA.

The U.S. Chamber will also deploy nearly 1,000 field operatives in critical battleground states starting this weekend to educate, motivate, and turnout pro-business voters. The effort will be done in partnership with state and local chambers, U.S. Chamber members, and key allies in targeted areas.

"For America's businesses, there is a lot at stake in this election, notably in these battleground Senate states," Miller said. "Voters in these states must know where the candidates stand on issues ranging from keeping taxes, energy prices, and government spending down to preserving the right to a secret ballot election in the workplace."

During the U.S. Chamber's inaugural 2006 Vote for Business Bandwagon program, the Chamber devoted significant resources to educate voters and organize get-out-the-vote efforts and worked with its members in 277 key Senate and House races. The bandwagon launched again in August 2008 with two buses covering a combined 32 states and over 8,000 miles before reaching the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
