U.S. Chamber Reinforces Support for Korea FTA in Meeting with Prime Minister
Agreement will Increase U.S. Exports by $10 to $12 Billion a Year
WASHINGTON, D.C.–-In a meeting today, the U.S. Korea Business Council Chairman William R. Rhodes and U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Vice President of Asia Myron Brilliant assured Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo that the U.S. business community continues to strongly support the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS).
"Not only do U.S. businesses strongly support this agreement, we're continuing to press for Congress to act to see that it's passed this year," said Rhodes. "While the global markets are facing major challenges, our economy is benefiting from exports. This agreement is an opportunity to expand on this and stimulate job creation and economic growth."
"The Chamber is committed to approval and ratification of the agreement with Korea," said Brilliant, who is also president of the U.S.-Korea Business Council.
According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, the KORUS FTA will increase U.S. exports by $10 to $12 billion a year by removing trade barriers and providing new protections for investments and intellectual property.
The U.S.-Korea FTA Business Coalition is a broad-based group of more than 1,000 U.S. companies, business organizations, farm and ranch groups, and chambers of commerce working to secure Congressional approval of the pending trade agreement with Korea.
